In social branding, we often talk about the personality of a brand. A brand’s prosody, walk, and vision have come to hold more sand than the idea or product it was built around. Under the white noise of hyper-marketing and the quickening of culture, the brand must be focused, yes, but it ultimately must become an actual person.  Recently Anya Hindmarch, a world famous high-end handbag designer, made a limited edition canvas bag for select Whole Foods grocery locations to promote the use of reusable bags instead of plastic or paper ones that require consuming natural resources like oil or trees. People waited in lines for hours to get their hands on a bag that read “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” and within minutes authentic bags, and counterfeit ones, went up on ebay for upwards of $350 each. While the publicity has died down a bit, just today I saw authentic bags selling on ebay for $200 and hundreds of knock-offs for much less. Comments (1) |
